Acer palmatum Kawahara Rose is a dwarf maple with spring foliage that is shrimp pink. The pink color lasts for 3-4 weeks slowly evolving to yellow/light green with some pink variegation. This transition in color is can be seen in the second photo provided. If you live in an area where the summer days are moderate and the temperatures do not often top 90 degrees then you you have a wonderful climate for Japanese Maples. Kawahara Rose would then be able to handle full sun. In hotter climates, I recommend morning sun with afternoon shade after 1-2:00 pm.
Acer palmatum Kawahara Rose is a delicate looking maple with the bright pink spring color evolving to a soft light green summer color and then finishing with crimson red. This cultivar is similar to Hino tori nishiki andCorallinum in coloration from spring to fall. Other maples in this group include Phoenix, Shin deshojo, Akaji nishiki and Beni maiko [will be added to inventory in 2021].
Like all Japanese Maples Kawahara Rose requires soil with good drainage. Digging a hole and planting a maple in clay soil is a killer. To really enjoy your maple from spring through fall for years and years, planting in the right location with the right amount of sunlight and good drainage is important.
