What's new at Eastfork Nursery?
Spring, or for that matter summer and fall are wonderful times to enjoy Japanese maples. We are fortunate this year to be able to offer several new Acer palmatum cultivars though some are in limited quantities. Beni gasi, Baby Ghost, Beni komachi, Brocade, Chitose yama, Green Elf, Green Snowflake, Kinran, Koyko, Hogyoku, Okagami, Lozita, Lionheart, Nishiki momiji, Katsura, Tamukeyama, Crimson Queen, and Stella Rosa are some of the named cultivars that either or available now or will be by summer. We also have quite a number of new Acer shirasawanum cultivars, including 6910 Holland, Ogura yama, and Junihitoye, and Garden Glory. And last, but not least we are now offering one grafted Acer circinatum - Sunny Sister. Our specialty Japanese Maples are repotted, staked and pruned, not only when we first receive them, but annually to ensure the best looking maple available.
I uploaded the new web pages with my new cultivars and I am working diligently to get rid of the glitches, but there still are gnomes or gremlins hiding in my pages, so let me know when one of those pesky critters messes up your order. You will note that as you scroll through our list of maples and dwarf conifers that the availability box may include months or seasons to better advise our customers when we expect our plants to be ready for sale. We will not sell plants with little or no roots. Because we ship our plants in the containers they are grown in, we want to make sure that the root system is well developed. To enhance root development we add mycorrhizae beneficial fungi to our potting mix. Mycorrhizae fungi colonize the roots and extend into the surrounding soil forming an essential link between plant and soil resources. Beneficial mycorrhizae fungi greatly increase the root's ability to absorb water and nutrients. Once established in the root system, the mycorrhizae stay with the plant throughout its lifetime. For more information about this relatively new root system supplement, please check out www.mycorrhizae.com
You may order maples in advance of their readiness date in order to ensure you will receive a cultivar that we may have in limited supply. We also have a tag and hold program for customers who want to purchase their plants now and have them shipped at a later date. Again, we are in business because of our love of Japanese maples and the joy we share with other maple enthusiasts like you. Thank you for your business.
We endeavor to select and propagate only the finest, unusual and rare maples, dwarf conifers and other distinctive plants. As a reminder, we may not ship plants during severe winter storms if the delivery time via FedEx is 4 or more days. For those of you living on the East coast or in the South I will select your plants and tag them with your name and hold them in a already sold area until the weather is more moderate.
If you would rather have 3 day express delivery there is an additional charge that we will be happy to calculate for you if you email us your address and the details of the plants you want to purchase.
For all orders with Eastfork Nursery, I [Sam I am] personally select and pack each of your plants. Please be careful when unwrapping. After unwrapped, water and then set outside in a shady area for a few days to acclimate. Thank you again, Sam - Eastfork Nursery
