This is a relatively new cultivar from - you guessed it - Holland. This is a relatively fast growing cultivar than can reach 7' in 6 years. Similar in leaf shape to Aureum, this cultivar shows golden yellow new growth turning to more of a green gold color in the summer turning to pumpkin orange in the fall.

Acer shirasawanum 'Aureum'

The common name for this cultivar is 'Golden Full Moon Maple' an older cultivar in the same genus as the Autumn Moon Maple [Acer shirasawanum Autumn Moon]

A small to medium sized tree with wonderful color throughout the growing season. The new growth is an exquisite lime green. Summer color is a golden lime green with a tinge of red along the edges of each leaf. The Golden Full Moon Maple is a most spectacular tree. Recommended sun exposure is in the morning with some shade protection in the hot afternoon sun. Fall colors are some of the best for any Japanese Maple ranging from gold to orange to red often on each individual leaf.

This cultivar is highly desired for a smaller partial shade garden. Placement in either a Northern or Eastern location would be best. It is an extremely slow grower which may reach 8' in 15 years.

Acer shirasawanum 'Autumn Moon'

Selected by J. D. Vertrees in the 1970's this hard to find cultivar in the same genus as the Golden Full Moon Maple [Acer shirasawanum Aureum].

A small to medium sized tree with wonderful color throughout the growing season. The new growth ranges in color from yellow to dark orange. Summer color tones similarly are shades of lemon green, gold, salmon and orange. Recommended sun exposure is in the morning with some shade protection in the hot afternoon sun. Fall colors mirror the spring and summer look with all the leaves darker in color from gold to red. A must for a Japanese Maple collector.

Acer shirasawanum 'Garden Glory'

Garden Glory is another Acer shirasawanum from Holland that is relatively fast growing to 6' in 7 years. Yellow green leaves in the spring turn to light green through the summer and again the fall display is bright orange - pumpkin orange. This cultivar can handle full sun to partial shade and is a perfect maple for a small garden or patio container.

Acer shirasawanum 'Junihitoye'

Junihitoye is a relatively slow growing cultivar that can reach 6' in 10 years. New growth is yellow green showing mostly green in the summer. The special characteristic of this cultivar is the large leaves with 12 lobes. Growth habit is compact and leaves are very dense to create a shrub-like tree. Wonderful addition to a small garden or for a patio container. Fall color is gold and orange.

Ogura yama is another relatively fast growing shirasawanum that can reach 12' in 15 years. New growth is lime-green turning into a strong green color for the summer. In the fall Ogura yama changes from green to orange and then scarlet. A nice specimen for a small garden or for a patio container.

Acer shirasawanum 'Palmatifolium'

Palmatifolium is a strong growing shirasawanum that can reach 20' in 20 years. Palmatifolium has very attractive bark that provides winter interest. New growth is lime green changing to a distinctive green in the summer and then evolving to gold and orange in the fall. A fantastic specimen for a larger garden. May be kept in a patio container for a period of time, but because of the growth habit planting it in the landscape is recommended. Palmatifolium can handle full sun to partial shade.
